Explore the island of Oleron on a camping holiday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Isle of Oleron is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Charente Maritime where it is part of the Charente archipelago. It is the largest French island after Corsica,<\/strong> measuring 30 km long and 12 km wide (at its widest point), and is nicknamed “Oleron, The luminous<\/strong>” because of its high level of sunshine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the continental side of the island, known for its calm and safe waters, come and enjoy the beach at 2800 meters from the campsite with a breathtaking view on the famous Fort Boyard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sea walks<\/a> are available !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3000 metres from the Ol\u00e9ron Loisirs campsite, the port of Douhet, one of the most lively places on the Ile d’Ol\u00e9ron, will delight you with its restaurants, bars, discotheques and water sports (sailing, jet skiing, …)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Isle of Ol\u00e9ron is rich in monuments and gastronomy !<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, as soon as you cross the Ol\u00e9ron bridge, you can see the Fort de Louvois (or Fort Chapus) opposite the Citadel of the castle of Ol\u00e9ron<\/strong>, a historic monument on the eastern side of the island, accessible on foot at low tide and which now houses the oyster museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the northern end of the island, near Saint Denis d’Ol\u00e9ron, the Chassiron lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in France still in operation after Cordouan<\/strong>, houses a museum on the theme of traditional fishing in its rotunda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village of La Cotini\u00e8re is home to a port with a fleet of about a hundred boats that fish for sole, sea bass, langoustines and other noble species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enjoy the Charente’s gastronomy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Bassin de Marennes-Ol\u00e9ron<\/strong> is the most important oyster<\/strong> refining centre in France and even in Europe. So it’s hardly surprising that you’ll come across some pretty little colourful huts dotted all over the island. A stay on the Ile d’Ol\u00e9ron will be the perfect opportunity to savour this unmissable speciality!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wine-growing is the oldest traditional activity. The local speciality is Pineau des Charentes<\/strong>, vin de pays charentais, Cognac and other liqueurs! You can find all these products at the many markets on the Ile d’Ol\u00e9ron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll be delighted with the famous galettes charentaises!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
