The port of La Cotini\u00e8re<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Situated in the commune of Saint-Pierre d’Ol\u00e9ron,<\/strong> La Cotini\u00e8re is a small town which owes its reputation above all to its famous port: the port of La Cotini\u00e8re.<\/strong> Indeed, this port is the first attraction of all the holiday makers of passage. The first fishing port of the region among three in terms of tonnage, it seduces first of all by its rustic character, its setting and the friendliness of the people animated by the desire to transmit the love of their region. With a fleet of about a hundred boats, this place gathers in one place all the activities linked to fishing as well as to the daily life of the sailors : lighthouse, unloading of the fish trays, sale at the auction, maintenance of the boats, repair of the nets… In the recent past, one could still mingle with the sailors returning from their sardine fishing, assisting to the sorting on the quay ; unseen moments for the amateurs of photographs. But recently, the landing quay is no longer accessible to the public for health and safety reasons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The scallop from the fishing port<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With 95 different species of fish, the waters of the island abound in a rare variety<\/strong> of fish (sardines, sole, sea bass, langoustine…), one of the most prized being the scallop<\/strong>: it is said that the scallop of Ile d\u2019Oleron has a special flavour. A local tourist industry has developed around this magnificent setting (restaurants, cafes).
